Kanonkop Kadette Cape Blend 2023
Kanonkop Kadette Cape Blend 2023 is a vibrant and approachable Stellenbosch red blend that showcases the rich heritage of South African winemaking. Crafted under the guidance of acclaimed winemaker Abrie Beeslaar, this Cape Blend combines ripe fruit, elegant spice and silky tannins in a wine that is both versatile and full of character.
Product Story
Produced from vineyards aged between 5 and 30 years, the grapes are grown on decomposed granite and Hutton soils in Stellenbosch, one of South Africa’s most prestigious wine regions.
The cool 2023 growing season, with its late budbreak and slow ripening conditions, allowed the grapes to develop exceptional fruit concentration, freshness and palate weight.
Fermentation took place in open-top concrete fermenters, where the cap was mechanically punched down every two hours to maximise colour, flavour and tannin extraction. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matured for 12 months in second and third-fill 225-litre French Nevers oak barrels, adding complexity while preserving the vibrant fruit profile.
Tasting Notes
Kanonkop Kadette Cape Blend displays a bright, deep ruby red colour with expressive aromas of cassis, raspberries, cherries and black plum.
Hints of cinnamon, allspice and subtle chocolate add further complexity. The palate is lively and fresh with succulent summer berry flavours supported by fine, silky tannins. Savoury nuances linger on the long, elegant finish.
