Kanonkop Kadette Cabernet Sauvignon 2023

Kanonkop Kadette Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 is a vibrant and approachable expression of Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon. Crafted by renowned winemaker Abrie Beeslaar, this wine combines ripe dark fruit, subtle oak influence and firm yet polished tannins in a classic, food-friendly style.

Product Story

Sourced from vineyards between 5 and 30 years of age, the grapes are grown on decomposed granite and Hutton soils, two of Stellenbosch’s most prized vineyard soil types.

The 2023 vintage benefited from a cool growing season with slow ripening, allowing the grapes to develop concentrated fruit flavours while retaining freshness and natural balance.

Fermentation took place in open-top concrete fermenters with regular punch-downs to maximise colour, flavour and tannin extraction. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matured for 12 months in second and third-fill 225-litre French Nevers oak barrels, adding subtle complexity while preserving the purity of the Cabernet Sauvignon fruit.

Tasting Notes

Kanonkop Kadette Cabernet Sauvignon displays a bright ruby colour with expressive aromas of ripe cassis, black cherries and vanilla, complemented by subtle hints of bell pepper.

The palate is generous with juicy red and black fruit flavours, savoury notes of tomato leaf and a touch of meatiness. Fine, grippy tannins and refreshing acidity create a balanced, structured wine with a long, satisfying finish.
